Ridgefield Park, NJ - The Ridgefield Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to a serious multi-vehicle accident on Route 80 Eastbound involving a vehicle that went over the barrier and into the Hackensack River. Upon arrival, crews confirmed the vehicle in the water with unknown occupant status, prompting an immediate rescue effort.

Fire units operated from both the highway and below the overpass, deploying an aerial ladder for access while marine units were launched to search the vehicle and surrounding water. The driver was able to self-extricate, and occupants from other vehicles were evaluated and transported.

Multiple agencies, including marine units and the Bergen County Regional Dive Team, assisted on scene. A drone with thermal imaging was also used to check both shorelines, ensuring no victims remained in the water.
