On May 29, at around 11:10 a.m., the Glen Gardner Fire Company No. 1 was called to a serious car accident on Main Street's southern end. A work truck collided with a structure, and there were reports of a trapped occupant.
Five firemen from Squad 12 and Brush 12 were the first suppression and rescue units on the site, according to officials. Within three minutes of arriving, the Squad 12 team extricated the patient and handed over patient care to Hunterdon County paramedics and staff from South Branch Emergency Services. Before joining efforts at the crash site, Engine 12 went to Glen Gardner Park to help establish a medical helicopter landing zone.
The damaged building was temporarily secured by Hunterdon County Urban Search and Rescue personnel until long-term repairs could be accomplished. The New Jersey State Police, Hampton Fire Company, Hunterdon County Hazmat, and Hunterdon County OEM were among the several organizations who helped at the scene.
After the collision, Main Street between Sanatorium Road and Hunt Place remained closed.
