The City of Newport Fire Department responded to a reported electrical fire on Maple Street at around 6:23 a.m. on May 25.

When Fire 1 and Engines 2 and 3 arrived, they discovered a smoldering electrical plug within a wall, according to officials. In order to look into the problem, firefighters disconnected the outlet and secured electricity to the impacted area. Before returning power to the house, with the exception of the impacted room, crews verified there was no fire extension into the wall.

At around 6:57 a.m., every unit left the area. Additionally, the agency expressed gratitude to the Newport Ambulance Service for their assistance throughout the incident.
