FDNY Releases Cause of Staten Island Explosion, Fire

An update on the fatal two-alarm fire and explosion at 3075 Richmond Terrace on Staten Island on May 22nd was released by the City of New York Fire Department.


FDNY Fire Marshals concluded the event was unintentional, according to officials. According to preliminary findings, the fire started when combustible fumes from industrial-grade paint ignited in a small area.


Numerous FDNY members and bystanders were hurt when the explosion happened while firefighters were performing search, rescue, and suppression operations. Over thirty people were hurt in the incident, including an FDNY fire marshal who suffered critical injuries, and one person was murdered.
