The City of New York Fire Department responded to a reported fire involving linked wood-frame row residences on Weirfield Street in Brooklyn at around 1:50 p.m. on May 8.
Arriving workers discovered a large fire on the top floor of 247 Weirfield Street, according to officials, with flames threatening to spread down the block and expanding into the cockloft. First-arriving units from Squad Company 252 and Ladder Company 112 were commended by Deputy Assistant Chief Timothy Keenan for promptly extending hoselines and starting roof operations to suppress the fire.
During the three-alarm reaction, firefighters effectively prevented the fire from spreading farther across the row of houses by deploying seven handlines. Just before 3:30 p.m., the fire was contained. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
