BRANDON, VT. — May 17 — The Brandon (VT) Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a multi-family dwelling on Champlain Street after a passerby reported smoke coming from the building. Arriving crews found smoke showing from the eaves and visible fire damage near a second-floor window. Firefighters quickly initiated an interior attack and brought the fire under control within approximately 10 minutes. Searches confirmed that all residents and animals safely evacuated the structure before conditions worsened.
The fire was contained to the apartment of origin, while adjoining units sustained smoke and water damage. Mutual aid departments, EMS crews, police, and utility personnel assisted during the incident. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours conducting overhaul operations and checking for hidden hot spots as investigators worked to determine the cause.
