MEADVILLE, Pa. — May 21st — In the Forest Green region, firefighters from Department West Mead #1 Volunteer Fire Company responded to an outdoor fire that involved numerous sofas burning adjacent to a basketball court near a number of apartment-style residential complexes. When Engine 28-15 arrived on the scene, it put out the fire with a 200-foot 2.5-inch preconnected wye and another 200 feet of 1.75-inch attack line.
In order to ensure a steady supply of water in the event that conditions deteriorated, Engine 28-13 supported operations and was ready for a reverse lay. Afterwards, West Mead Police concluded that human action was the cause of the fire. The incident was completely avoidable, according to officials, who also pointed out that prompt crew coordination prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.
