The Caughdenoy Volunteer Fire Department responded to a rapidly spreading brush fire behind a home on County Route 10 at around 1:30 p.m. on April 29.
According to officials, Chief Centner and Rescue Pumper 621, who was already in the district doing training, responded right away. When responders arrived, they saw a 20-by-40-foot area of flaming leaves that extended into the surrounding branches and brush. Hoselines were swiftly deployed by firefighters, preventing the fire from spreading.
Due to a shortage of hydrants in the area, Phoenix Enterprise Fire Company No. 1 supplied extra personnel and water, and Rescue 663 also responded to support operations. In order to put out the fire, crews worked for about an hour and used almost 2,000 gallons of water.
Residents were also warned by officials that the New York State fire ban was still in force until May 15.
