Vassalboro Fire Quickly Knocks Down Structure Fire at Local Scrap Facility

Vassalboro, ME - Vassalboro Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at a scrap yard on Riverside Drive, where crews arrived to find fire showing from the rear corner of the building.


Firefighters deployed hose lines to the rear of the structure while an interior crew of two made entry and initiated an aggressive fire attack. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down within minutes of arrival, after which crews transitioned to overhaul operations.


Mutual aid was requested from Winslow Fire for a tanker, Waterville Fire for cascade support, along with Vassalboro First Responders, Central Maine Power, Delta Ambulance, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, and Maine DOT.


The business was unoccupied at the time of the incident. The fire remains under investigation by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office. Vassalboro Fire responded with multiple apparatus and personnel, and no injuries were reported.
