Commercial Fire on Ely Avenue Contained Without Injuries

Norwalk, CT - The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a commercial building fire at 251 Ely Avenue on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at approximately 4:01 p.m. According to fire officials, the initial call reported an outside fire spreading to the building.


Upon arrival, Engine 2 crews discovered burning debris behind the structure, with windy conditions pushing the flames toward the building. A working fire was declared shortly after crews arrived on scene. Multiple units, including Engine 2, Engine 5, Engine 3, Truck 2, Truck 1, Rescue 2, along with command and safety personnel, responded to the incident.


Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within about 35 minutes using a first-alarm assignment. Officials said the majority of the damage was confined to the exterior of the building, although smoke damage affected portions of the interior.


Norwalk EMS remained on scene to assist with firefighter rehabilitation, while the Norwalk Police Department handled traffic and crowd control in the area. Authorities confirmed that no civilians or firefighters were injured, and no occupants were displaced as a result of the fire. The cause of the incident remains under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal Division.
