Sound Beach Assists at Rocky Point Commercial Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

The Sound Beach Fire Department was sent on mutual aid to help the Rocky Point Fire Department with a commercial structure fire on Main Street in Rocky Point at around 2:30 a.m. on May 11.

A roof fall and downed power lines in front of the structure complicated the well-involved fire that first-arriving Rocky Point workers discovered, according to officials. Firefighters helped with overhaul and mop-up operations for nearly an hour while Sound Beach Engine 9 arrived on the site and secured a backup water supply.

Around 4 a.m., crews were freed from the scene and went back to work. The incident demonstrated the value of skilled volunteer firemen and regional collaboration in mutual help, according to the department.
