Bellport Firefighters Extinguish Commercial Property Debris Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

The Bellport Fire Department was called to Montauk Highway east of Station Road at around 1:24 p.m. on April 25 in response to a report of black smoke coming from behind a business structure.

Arriving firefighters saw a pile of flaming pallets and other debris on top of a small fiberglass boat hull, according to officials. It took around fifty minutes for firefighters to put out the fire. Later, in order to allow workers to continue overhaul and extinguishment activities, the property owner fanned out the rubble pile using a backhoe.

At around 2:51 p.m., the situation was resolved. The Suffolk County Police Department and South Country Ambulance both offered assistance on the spot.
