Mutual Aid Requested for Cortland Field Fire Response

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

CORTLAND, NY — April 24th — A reported field fire prompted the Cortlandville Fire Department to react to the Sweeney Road area. When firefighters arrived, they saw an open field with about two acres on fire. As workers attempted to confine the fire and stop it from spreading into neighboring communities, the Homer Fire Department was asked for mutual aid. In around half an hour, the fire was contained.

Additionally, the Cortland County Department of Emergency Response and Communications provided on-site assistance. Because of the increased risk of spring fires around New York, officials reminded citizens that the statewide burn prohibition is still in place until May 15th.
