Mastic FD Handles A Slick Situation After A Saturday Afternoon Crash.

Shirley NY. – On May 16th at 3:20 PM the Mastic Fire Department was activated for a report of an MVA with a fuel spill on Montauk Highway near Versa Place. Chiefs Rudy Sunderman and Gene Martucci arrived on scene first. They found a 2vehicle crash with fluids in the lanes of travel. The chiefs immediately requested and Engine to come into the scene. Chief Sunderman also requested that 2nd Lt Rudy Sunderman divert traffic through the Khols Shopping Center as vehicles were going through the fluids and spreading it down the road. Fire Police Also assisted with traffic control. The vehicles were able to be moved to a parking lot safely and efficiently.
Engine 5-12-1 arrived a short time later and the crew immediately brought speedy dry and brooms up to the scene to clean up the fluids and debris along with the crew of 5-12-5. Crews Made quick work of the debris and fluids and all units were back in service within the half hour.
