Guilderland, NY - Guilderland Fire Department responded as part of a mutual aid assignment to a reported chlorine leak at a water treatment facility in Voorheesville.
Crews deployed with the department’s Hazardous Materials Decontamination Trailer and specialized equipment, operating in a support role while a regional HazMat team conducted ventilation and atmospheric monitoring inside the facility.
The situation was ultimately determined to be safe, with no exposures reported. This response marked the department’s first activation in its role as the Albany County Hazardous Materials Decontamination Unit, highlighting the training and readiness of its members for specialized incidents.
