COLRAIN, MA — April 28th — A rapidly spreading brush fire near power lines off Route 8A prompted the Colrain Firefighters' Association to send multiple pieces of equipment to Sherman Drive in Heath. As the fire moved across forested areas, crews reported challenging access conditions. Before further mutual assistance departments from Massachusetts and Vermont were called in to help, the first firefighters from Heath and Colrain established containment lines using hand tools and leaf blowers.
According to officials, the fire was limited to around 2.3 acres. Firefighters worked perimeter and suppression operations until dusk, and overhaul activities were planned to continue the next morning. Colrain received station coverage from the Shelburne Center Fire Department throughout the incident.
