BERNARDSTON, MA — April 25th — In response to a reported brush fire in Leyden, the Bernardston Fire Department was automatically assigned to provide mutual aid. As fears about fire spread intensified due to dry vegetation and windy spring weather, firefighters helped nearby departments with suppression operations. Due to challenging terrain, restricted access to water, and prolonged overhaul operations, brush fires in rural regions frequently require assistance from several organizations.

During the spring, departments in western Massachusetts continue to keep an eye on enhanced outdoor fire conditions. While maintaining emergency coverage in their individual districts, departments can swiftly swap equipment and manpower during larger events thanks to mutual help agreements with nearby communities. Coordinated regional response is still crucial during times of elevated brush fire activity, according to fire authorities.
