Mutual Aid Companies Battle Greenfield Brush Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

BERNARDSTON, MA — April 14th — A fast-moving brush fire along railroad tracks behind a Tractor Supply shop prompted the Bernardston Fire Department to react on a first-alarm mutual assistance assignment to Greenfield. Later, as the fire advanced quickly, Brush 1 personnel were rerouted to Interstate 91 southbound. Before participating with suppression and overhaul operations alongside other departments, firefighters placed a hose line on the south side of the fire to help contain the forward spread of the fire.

Engine 2 also arrived to help with water supply operations for units operating along I-91 as the situation worsened. Before being released by Greenfield Command, Bernardston firefighters stayed on the scene. In Massachusetts, brush fire activity is still rising due to dry spring conditions.
