Brush Fire Sparked by Unattended Campfire Contained in Wooded Area

Freetown, MA - Freetown firefighters were dispatched to investigate reports of smoke in the area of Betty Springs Road, with crews from Stations 2 and 3 responding.


Upon arrival, firefighters located a 3–4 acre brush fire approximately one-third of a mile into a wooded area.


The fire was determined to have originated from an unattended campfire that had not been properly extinguished.


Crews utilized brush breakers from both stations and worked extensively to contain and secure the perimeter, operating into the evening hours.


Firefighters will return to the scene to continue extinguishing remaining hot spots and ensure full containment.
