NORWALK, CT - The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Wednesday, May 10th, at 12:44 A.M. The fire was located at 1 North Ave. in a two-story, 10 unit wood-frame apartment building. Initial reports stated smoke and flames coming from the building.

While enroute, dispatched relayed that there was an occupant who had exited their apartment and then re-entered and would not come out. PD was able to remove the occupant as the fire department was arriving on scene. 

Upon arrival, Engine 4 encountered heavy smoke coming from the first and second floors. Three handlines were placed into operation as searches were conducted and ventilation took place. A third-alarm was quickly struck, bringing in additional manpower.  

The fire was extinguished in 90 minutes by a third-alarm assignment consisting of 5 Engines, 2 Ladder Trucks, 1 Rescue vehicle, and the shift commander, totaling 33 personnel. An additional mutual aid engine from Stamford was called to the scene for manpower. The Stamford, New Canaan, and Westport Fire Departments provided station coverage during the fire.

Currently, there are seven occupants displaced by this blaze. There was no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians. The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
