East Putnam Officer Spots Brush Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

While traveling on East Putnam Road on April 24 at around 4:15 p.m., an East Putnam Fire Department officer noticed a brush fire.

The homeowner was utilizing a fire pit when the fire spread because of high fire danger conditions, according to officials. The officer relocated a dog to safety and stopped to help with urgent containment attempts.

Soon after, Service 179 and Tanker 179 arrived and finished the containment and cleanup tasks. The fire was contained to less than a tenth of an acre and consumed pine needles and leaf litter.

Residents were advised by the department that in dry and windy circumstances, confined fires can spread rapidly.
