Following complaints of a fire alarm activation and smoke conditions inside the building, Rochester Fire Department personnel responded to a fire at the Wyandotte Falls Apartments on June 5.

Firefighters swiftly discovered a fire in a second-floor flat after arriving to see inhabitants evacuate, according to officials. By starting suppression efforts and bringing the fire under control, crews were able to restrict damage to the original apartment and stop it from spreading to neighboring units. Additionally, firefighters safely retrieved a pet from the impacted unit after conducting a primary search. No firefighter injuries were reported, although one person was transported by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to an inquiry, the incident started in the kitchen and was brought on by cooking oil that unintentionally caught fire as food was being prepared. The American Red Cross provided help to the displaced apartment occupant. Officials observed that the building's fire alarm system and smoke alarms worked as intended, offering early notice and facilitating a safe escape.

During the event, mutual aid departments from Barrington, Berwick, Dover, Farmington, Milton, and Somersworth offered station coverage and on-site assistance.
