Second-Alarm Fire Tears Through Three-Story Residence in Walden

WALDEN, NY - Walden FD responded to a reported structure fire at 15 Riverview Street on May 8th. Car One arrived to find heavy smoke and fire on the first floor of a three-story residence, spreading to the second floor.
A second alarm was requested, bringing mutual aid to the scene from Coldenham, Montgomery, City of Newburgh, Wallkill, Maybrook, Vails Gate, Pine Bush, and Orange Lake.
A 10-minute status check reported heavy fire on the first floor extending to the second floor, with two lines in operation. A 20-minute check reported four lines in operation with heavy fire conditions. At the 70-minute check, the fire was knocked down, though a partial collapse of the front of the residence was reported. At the 90-minute check, the bulk of the fire had been knocked down, with multiple lines still operating.
Command requested NYSEG to the scene. One firefighter was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center with burns. Orange County Deputy Fire Coordinator 36-12 and Ulster County Deputy Fire Coordinator 56-4 were also on scene.
Town of Montgomery EMS, Town of Newburgh EMS, Walden Police, and New York State Police assisted at the scene. Command also requested Orange County Fire Investigators to respond; units 36-06 and 36-101 responded. Cronomer Valley and Washingtonville FD stood by for Walden during the incident.
The fire remains under investigation.
