This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On Friday night, the Veterans of Foreign Wars held an event to recognize service members of our community. Firefighter Zac Topping who was hired in August of 2019 was recognized for his exemplary service to the City of Norwich. Before being hired, Zac served in the army for 4 years and was deployed to Iraq twice. He is also an author and will be having his third book published in July.

Norwich Police Officer Robert Smith was hired in December of 1994 and has faithfully served our city for 31 years. He knows the ins and outs of the entire city very well and has developed a lot of relationships throughout the past three decades.

Dispatcher Daniel O’Brien was also recognized for always going above and beyond the call of duty. He was hired in July of 2000 and has had a significant impact on the operations of our dispatch center.
