Wind-Driven Field Fire Sparks Multi-Department Wildland Response in Shelburne Area
Hinesburg, VT - Firefighters from the Hinesburg Fire Department responded to reports of an unpermitted burn near Route 116 and Pond Road after dispatchers warned that no burn permits were being issued due to dangerous wind and dry weather conditions.
While responding, crews observed a visible smoke column and quickly requested mutual aid from the Shelburne and Williston Fire Departments as concerns grew about the fire spreading rapidly in the dry conditions.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered approximately half an acre of field actively burning under strong winds.
Crews deployed specialized wildland hose packs and aggressively attacked the fire, successfully containing the blaze within a short time before it could threaten additional land or nearby properties.
A total of 12 firefighters and seven apparatus operated at the scene during the coordinated response.
Officials later confirmed the incident was located within the Town of Shelburne.
Fire officials reminded residents that burn permits are required for all open burning in Vermont and emphasized that dispatch agencies may suspend permits during periods of elevated fire danger caused by dry and windy weather conditions.
