Careless smoking sparks fire in Geneva

GENEVA, NY - On Sunday, May 3, at 12:45 p.m., Geneva firefighters responded to a smoke investigation in the area of 16 Union Street in the city.


Units arrived on location with a fire on the exterior of the structure, which was quickly extinguished.


Also assisting at the scene were West Lake Road (FAST) and Mercy EMS.


White Springs provided a stand-by at the city fire station.


There were no injuries reported.


Official from the Ontario County Office of Emergency Management and the Geneva Police believe the cause of the blaze was improper disposal of smoking materials.
