STERLING, CT - At 6:08 p.m. on May 2nd, the Sterling, Oneco, Moosup, South Killingly, Atwood Hose, Plainfield, and Danielson FDs, along with Moosup Ambulance, were dispatched to 61 Church Street for a reported house fire. Car 67 arrived on scene, assumed command, and reported that half of the duplex was well involved.
Engine Tanker 168 arrived and stretched a line to the front of the structure. Crews operated inside briefly before being pulled out and transitioning to a defensive operation. Ladder 194 was positioned at the front, and Tanker 168 engaged the fire with its deck gun. Crews utilized a neighborhood hydrant to feed the initial lines, while Hose Tender 196 laid a line to a nearby pond to establish a secondary water supply.
Command transmitted a second alarm at 7:10 p.m., bringing in Western Coventry and Moosup Valley (Rhode Island), as well as Jewett City’s FAST team. Car 94 handled operations, and the Sterling Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the incident.
