Teaneck, NJ - A fire in an apartment in a Teaneck OMD left numerous occupants temporarily displaced on April 29th, but aggressive firefighting kept the fire from extending much further.
At about 4:00 PM, the TFD was dispatched to 114 Ayers Court for a report of smoke from the roof. On arrival, flames were visible in a third floor apartment in the 3 story brick “U” shaped OMD. A second alarm was transmitted. An attack line was quickly stretched to the fire apartment and soon had the visible flames knocked down. The smoke condition from the cockloft vents made it apparent the fire had extended. A third alarm was sounded bringing additional mutual aid to the scene and to cover. The cockloft was opened up from below and vented on the roof and the fire was extinguished before it could extend. The smoke condition then lightened and the fire was placed under control. Mutual aid from Hackensack, Englewood, Bergenfield, and Ridgefield Park assisted at the scene. No serious injuries were reported.
