At around 5:00 p.m. on April 24, the Randolph Village Fire Department was called to a grass fire near Route 12.
When crews arrived, they discovered that the fire was growing uphill in dry circumstances. The fire was put out before it spread further thanks to the help of off-duty firefighters, onlookers, and the prompt action of Randolph Village residents.
The Randolph Center Fire Department offered mutual aid assistance.
The public was urged to use caution when handling outdoor ignition sources by officials, who pointed out that dry conditions enhance the potential of rapid fire spread. A cigarette that was thrown away is thought to be the source of the fire.
