ALBANY, NY – On March 25, 2026, at 9:46 PM, multiple calls were received by the City of Albany’s Emergency Communications Center reporting a structure fire at 50 Delaware Street, with possible occupants trapped inside.
Engine 5, Truck 4, Truck 2, Engine 1, Engine 9, Rescue Squad, Rescue 9, Battalion 1, and Mohawk Ambulance Service responded. Police arrived first to find heavy fire in the rear and smoke from the roof. Engine 5 reported a two-story, wood-frame structure with heavy fire showing and transmitted a Signal 30 for a working fire.
Firefighters deployed an inch-and-three-quarter handline and conducted a primary search, confirming all occupants were out. Albany Police had already evacuated everyone prior to fire crews arriving.
Truck crews ventilated the roof as heavy smoke pushed from attic vents and the cockloft. Additional crews established a water supply and deployed more handlines. Firefighters reported fire running the cockloft and extending into an attached vacant structure, creating exposure concerns.
Crews opened ceilings and walls to access hidden fire as conditions intensified, with flames extending to the Delta side and into the exposure building. A second alarm was requested, bringing mutual aid from Troy, Watervliet, and Watervliet Arsenal.
Firefighters continued an aggressive interior attack while exterior crews worked to contain fire spreading through the walls and siding. Due to structural concerns, crews did not enter the vacant building and instead operated from the exterior and roof.
A third alarm was later transmitted as crews worked to fully contain the fire. A 2½-inch handline was used to knock down fire that had extended from the cockloft. EMS evaluated one individual, who declined treatment.
Firefighters also assisted residents in recovering family heirlooms from the home.
The fire was ultimately brought under control, and crews conducted extensive overhaul. Fire investigators are working to determine the cause. No injuries were reported.
