Multi-Agency Response Leads to Water Rescue

Chaumont, NY — April 6th — A report of a capsized boat with two individuals in the water was received by the Chaumont Volunteer Fire Department, which is situated at 11385 State Route 12E. Crews had to disperse along Duck Harbor Road and County Route 125 due to limited location information. With the use of visible life jackets, firefighters found the victims and guided the arrival of assistance. The search was aided by a drone from Cape Vincent and a fire boat from the City of Watertown.


At the Chaumont Boat Launch, both victims were hauled ashore and taken to emergency medical services. The victims were taken from specific landing zones by air medical helicopters. A safe and successful rescue was made possible by agency coordination, according to officials.
