STATE COLLEGE, PA — April 7th — When a construction worker had a medical issue on a roof, the Alpha Fire Company was called to the 130 block of Bluestar Way on the Penn State University Park campus for a specialist rescue.
Together with University Police and EMS, Company 5 units—including Truck 5-1 and Rescue 5 with 11 personnel—made contact with the patient. Using an aerial bucket and a stair chair proved to be the safest removal technique, according to the crews. After around 20 minutes, the patient was successfully lowered from the roof.
Chief S. Pedersen was in charge of the operations. Such incidents necessitate cooperation between fire, emergency medical services, and law enforcement as well as technical rescue scenario training.
