Early-Morning Fire Destroys Amityville Home

AMITYVILLE, NY - At approximately 3:20 A.M. on April 23rd, the North Amityville Fire Company was alerted for a reported house fire on Bayview Avenue cross of Ronek Drive. The Copiague Fire Department was also activated as a dual response engine.


The first responding chiefs were Copiague Fire Department Chiefs Daniel Broyles (1-3-31), and Nicholas Orlando (1-3-33). The first responding engine was 1-7-10, and upon their arrival they proceeded with an urgent message, a working fire was transmitted as well as a request for PSEG forthwith for live wires. The officer of 1-7-10 advised Babylon Central Fire Alarm that the next engine (1-3-7) would need to pick up a water supply.


Multiple hand lines were put into operation between Engines 1-7-10 and 1-3-7. The first due truck was North Lindenhurst 1-11-4. Upon their arrival they set the bucket up for master stream operations. Soon after, the crews were pulled out of the dwelling and a defensive mode of attack was taken. Once all visible fire was knocked down from the exterior, crews reentered the structure to knock hotspots and perform overhaul.


Mutual aid consisted of the Copiague FD for an Engine (E1-3-7), North Lindenhurst FD for a working truck (L1-11-4), East Farmingdale Fire Co. for a working truck (L1-5-15), Massapequa FD for the RIT (L636), Amityville FD for an ambulance (A1-1-11), Farmingdale FD for an engine to standby (E923), Lindenhurst FD for a standby truck (L1-6-4), and Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corp. for rehab.


Units operated under the command of 1st Assistant Chief of the Copiague Fire Department Daniel Broyles (1-3-31), and 1st Assistant Chief of the North Amityville Fire Co. Vince McLeod (1-7-31). The cause of the fire is under investigation.
