Hewlett FD Responded to a House Fire

Hewlett, NY — April 11th — A reported structure fire on Whitehall Drive in the North Woodmere neighborhood prompted the Hewlett Fire Department, located at 25 Franklin Ave. It was reported that smoke was emanating from a residence. When Chief of Department Velotti and Engine Company 5 got on the site, they identified the source as a resident burning wood in their backyard. Crews made sure no surrounding structures had been affected by the fire and examined the area for extension.


Before going back into service, units stayed on the scene for a short while to assess the situation. There were no reported casualties or damages. Authorities also out that uncontrolled outdoor burning could be dangerous and could be confused with building fires. Residents are reminded to uphold safe circumstances and adhere to municipal burning restrictions.
