Mutual Aid Supports Extended Riverhead Incident

RIVERHEAD, NY — March 31st — The Riverhead Fire Department responded to a barn blaze on Sound Avenue, where firefighters arrived to find the building significantly engulfed in flames. 


Due to prevailing fire conditions and strong winds, the strategy shifted to a defensive approach. Firefighters focused on containing the blaze, safeguarding nearby structures, and aiding in the rescue of animals from the barn. The situation required a prolonged effort before it was declared under control. 


Mutual aid units provided support with personnel and water supply, including departments from Jamesport, Mattituck, Flanders, Southold, Manorville, and Westhampton Beach. Additional assistance came from the Riverhead Police, the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Town Fire Marshal, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
