Defensive Operations Used at Attic Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On April 19 at around 6:07 a.m., the Nesconset Fire Department provided mutual aid to the Ronkonkoma Fire Department in response to a reported structure fire. The second-due engine was engine 441.

When responders arrived, they found an active fire in the garage that was spreading into the attic. Command ordered the evacuation of interior teams due to restricted access and severe fire conditions in the attic area. In order to contain the fire, operations switched to a defensive strategy and used tower ladder streams.

During working fires in Suffolk County, mutual help organizations typically functioned under a single command structure.
