This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

At before 7:15 a.m. on April 2, the Mattituck Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on New Suffolk Avenue.

When Southold Town Police came first, they verified that there was smoke coming from an active fire inside a garage. When Engine 8-6-3 arrived, it extended an attack line and swiftly put out the fire. The flat above was searched by a second crew, who verified that there were no inhabitants and no fire extension. Engine 8-6-6 was ready to supply water and secured a hydrant.

While the rescue squad supplied firefighter rehabilitation, fire police blocked the road during operations. Before handing the situation over to the Southold Town Fire Marshal, crews worked for around an hour.
