Mastic Crews Knock Down Camper Fire on Mastic Road

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

At around 5:19 p.m. on April 6, the Mastic Fire Department Chemical Company No. 1 responded to a reported camper fire on Mastic Road.

Rudy Sunderman, the assistant chief, was the first to arrive and reported a totally engaged camper. Soon later, Chief Steve Januszkiewicz showed in and took over. While additional units 5-12-4 and 5-12-10 helped with knockdown and overhaul operations, engine 5-12-3 stretched a handline and started extinguishing.

In order to control traffic and keep the workplace safe, fire police units were also present. In order to avoid spreading to neighboring areas, fires involving cars and campers must be put out quickly.

Before being put back into operation, each unit ran for around an hour. There were no reported injuries.
