Mastic Crews Knock Down Camper Fire

MASTIC, NY - At around 5:19 p.m. on April 6th, the Mastic Fire Department responded to a reported camper fire on Mastic Road. Assistant Chief Rudy Sunderman was the first to arrive and reported a totally engulfed camper. Chief Steve Januszkiewicz arrived shortly after and took over operations. While additional units 5-12-4 and 5-12-10 helped with knockdown and overhaul operations, Engine 5-12-3 stretched a handline and started extinguishing. In order to control traffic, fire police units were also present. Before being put back into service, each unit ran for around an hour. There were no reported injuries.
