On April 15, 2026, a Bayonne Police officer on patrol alerted the Bayonne Fire Department to a reported structure fire at 186 Prospect Avenue. When units arrived, they discovered a residential home's second floor on fire.
In around sixteen minutes, firefighters managed to contain the fire by stretching a single hose line. While other units assisted with on-site operations, crews searched and looked for extensions.
The American Red Cross and the Office of Emergency Management are helping two displaced residents. There were no reported injuries. Fire investigators concluded that the fire was caused by an accident. Authorities attributed the limited damage to the building to the prompt police warning and the well-coordinated reaction.
