Exterior Fire Extends to Garage in Closter

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

CLOSTER, NJ - On the warm Saturday afternoon of April 19th, Northern Valley firefighters would make quick work of a garage fire.

A Battalion 2 South box was sounded for units to respond into Closter just after 3:00 P.M. for PD reporting smoke coming from a house. Demarest Chief McLoughlin arrived on scene at 219 Cedar Ln to find an exterior fire extending to a two-story detached garage in the rear of the home.

Closter Engine 762 and Demarest Ladder 469 arrived on scene and stretched a one-and-three-quarter-inch hand line to the front of the building. A second-alarm was transmitted as the exterior fire was extinguished first before entering the garage to extinguish any fire that had extended into the structure.

Crews opened up and ventilated the garage as a second hand line was stretched. The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes, but crews remained on scene to hit any hot spots. Mutual Aid from Northvale, Norwood, Harrington Park, Haworth, and Demarest assisted on scene. No injuries were reported, and the fire is under investigation.
