ERIE, PA — March 29th — In response to a chimney fire that spread to the attic and roof, the Kuhl Hose Fire Department, located at 3131 Rescue Lane, went on a mutual aid assignment to help Waterford firemen on East 3rd Street. When the first firefighters noticed flames coming from the roof, they launched a swift attack to stop it from spreading. When Engine 683 arrived, it helped the Perry Highway units, Mill Village Volunteer Fire Company, Stancliff Hose Company, and Waterford Fire Department with overhauls and attic extension checks.

Finding hidden fires in chimney fires that spread into hidden areas requires a complete refurbishment. Crews verified that all fire spots had been extinguished and opened up the impacted areas. There were no reported injuries. Units stayed on the scene until operations were finished and the structure was judged safe.
