CRESSKILL, NJ - Had just one of the actions not happened, life would have gone on peacefully, but on April 12th, everything aligned and firefighters from multiple departments were called in to save a home in Cresskill.
At about 9:30 A.M., a box truck was traveling west on Madison Avenue when the box caught a tree branch, breaking it off the tree. The branch fell, bringing down several electrical lines. The electrical service to a house at 185 Madison Ave. arced in the garage area and energized it, starting a small fire and creating a smoke condition.
Cresskill firefighters were dispatched and observing the situation immediately called for mutual aid and Orange & Rockland Electric with a rush. Luckily, the utility company was in the area and able to quickly secure the power. Firefighters were able to open up in the garage and the attic above and soon had the fire extinguished with relatively minor damage.
