ERIE, PA — 29th March — A deadly structure fire was reported at 535 1/2 E. 26th St. by the Erie Firefighters IAFF Local 293, 200 block West 12th Street, Erie, PA. Following several reports, Engine 13 was diverted from a medical call and first platoon crews were sent to a reported fire. Command personnel, fire investigators, engines 13, 12, 8, 6, 11, Tower 2, and a K-9 unit responded.
When the crews arrived, they started searching and attacking the fire. In challenging circumstances, firefighters performed three rescues. A third victim was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital in critical condition, while the other two were declared dead. The Erie Police Department and the Erie Fire Marshal's Office are still looking into the cause.
