Multi-Agency Search Ends in Tragic Loss of Firefighters

BERKS COUNTY, PA — April 5th — Two firefighters were killed while performing their duties during a search operation, according to the FWM Volunteer Fire Co. The Walnuttown Fire Company's Fire Chief Jeff Buck and Assistant Fire Chief Robert Shick were driving a utility terrain vehicle down Kutztown Road when it was hit by a southbound car, according to the Fleetwood Police Department. At the site, both members were declared deceased.


The chiefs were helping with a multi-agency search for a missing person, according to officials. Such incidents serve as a reminder of the dangers that responders encounter when doing support operations. The collision is still being looked at by the authorities. Funeral plans have not yet been made public.
