YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY — March 11th — A reported car fire on Crompond Road prompted the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department, located at 1916 Commerce St., Yorktown Heights, NY, to send out firefighters. Car 2532, Car 2533, Engine 274, Engine 272, and Engine 270 were among the units assigned. When crews arrived, they discovered a passenger car on fire. They immediately used hose lines to contain and put out the fire.

Before leaving the scene, firefighters made sure the fire was completely extinguished by inspecting the surrounding area and the engine compartment of the car. Fuel, plastics, and electrical components included in contemporary cars can cause vehicle fires, which are a frequent response for fire crews. Extension to adjacent cars or roadside vegetation can be avoided with prompt action and suppression.
