YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY — March 14th — In response to a reported water rescue, firefighters from the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department, located at 1916 Commerce St., Yorktown Heights, NY, provided mutual aid to the City of Peekskill. The department's Dive and Water Rescue Unit, Rescue 55, and Car 2531 were sent to help Peekskill workers. When help arrived, the car's occupant had already safely exited the vehicle after self-extricating from the water.

Divers from Yorktown Heights stayed on the site to help a tow firm secure and remove the submerged car. In order to properly operate around vehicles in water, water rescue occurrences frequently call for specialist diving teams and equipment. In the event of an emergency involving rivers, reservoirs, or other waterways, departments in the area maintain these skills to assist adjacent authorities.
