Mutual Aid Companies Contain Woods Fire in Canterbury

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

CENTRAL VILLAGE, CT — March 28th — A reported woods fire prompted the Central Village Fire Company Station 97 to provide mutual aid to the Town of Canterbury. Crews were sent to help Canterbury units put out a brush fire that was blazing in a wooded area. In order to confine the fire and stop it from spreading to neighboring properties, firefighters collaborated with Canterbury teams. In eastern Connecticut, brush fires are a frequent issue in the early spring because they can spread swiftly due to dry leaves and surface fuels.

To bolster suppression efforts, mutual aid organizations supplied more personnel and equipment. In addition to working cooperatively to contain the fire, crews continued to monitor the area for hot spots. The response highlights the importance of mutual aid and ongoing departmental cooperation.
