This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

CANTERBURY, CT — March 15th — A reported car accident near 407 Westminster Road prompted the Canterbury Volunteer Fire Company Inc., located at 151 Westminster Road. One car off the road with the driver pinned inside the passenger compartment was discovered by first-arriving units. Firefighters asked the American Ambulance Service and the Scotland Volunteer Fire Department for more resources for a protracted extrication and enhanced life support. An air ambulance could not be used due to the weather.

To release the patient, crews from Engines 193 and 116 performed an intrusive extrication. After being moved to Ambulance 593, the patient was taken to William W. Backus Hospital for medical attention. While the Connecticut State Police Troop D conducted their investigation, Westminster Road remained closed.
