Orland, ME - On 30th March 2026, emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 7:15 p.m. to investigate a reported sinkhole near 417 Gilpin Road and to stand by for State Police assistance. Upon arrival, personnel discovered a small surface hole with an estimated five feet of the roadbed missing beneath the pavement, indicating a compromised section of roadway.

Officials from OFD remained on scene while Wardwell Construction was called in to address the issue. The company deployed heavy equipment to stabilize the affected area by repeatedly driving over the weakened section to collapse any additional undermined pavement.

As a temporary measure, the hole was filled with a coal patch at around 8:00 p.m., restoring safe passage for residents. Authorities confirmed that normal passenger vehicles should be able to use the road without difficulty until permanent repairs are completed.

State Police were ultimately stood down, and the incident was logged as Call 32.
